At Floor Coverings International, we love bringing you insight and perspectives from designers. Today, we have an interview with Jessica Pelasky, blogger at Plucky’s Second Thought.
Floor Coverings International: Can you tell me a little about yourself?
Jessica Pelasky: I am an Ohio blogger who believes in sharing easy craft projects and simple recipes that anyone, at any skill level, can accomplish. My blogger name is “Plucky,” but most call me Jess. “Plucky” was a nickname when I was younger and it was one that was never forgotten!
My creative and design career started out by owning my own newsletter company at age 13 — which was published and mailed to various individuals and families all over the country for five years. Soon thereafter, she decided to expand my horizons by joining the online world with having my own personal website that went on to receive over 2,000 visitors a day at age 14. This was the platform that allowed me to design websites for various up-and-coming music artists at age 16. I have also worked with local ministries, churches, small businesses, Broadway stars, American Idol contestants, actors, medical professionals, and many more! I currently own a web design business that hosts, designs, and maintains over 30 clients websites. I’m also an online Adjunct Instructor for the University of Florida’s College of Journalism’s Web Design and Online Communications program where I teach two web design classes.
While designing is indeed my true passion, other passions include traveling, spending time with family, my furry kids, watching a good movie, listening to great music, and reading an amazing book. I’m also a sucker for Starbucks Iced Coffee. 😉
FCI: Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?
JP: On my blog at Plucky’s Second Thought you can view easy DIY ideas dealing with recipes and crafts; as well as product, travel, movies, TV show, and book reviews! You don’t have to be Martha Stewart or Rachael Ray to attempt anything shared at Plucky’s Second Thought! 🙂 Some blogs out there try to get too fancy whereas I want to show the real deal because not everyone makes gourmet meals.
FCI: How do you find and choose the other blog posts that you share on your Link Parties?
JP: They actually come to me. 🙂 I’ve had my blog for over 2 years and I’ve built a following that is shared throughout the blogger’s community. Also, every time they participate in the Link Parties, they are added to the mailing list to let them know about future Link Parties and when they go live.
FCI: How do you come up with the ideas for your various recipes and crafts?
JP: A lot of inspirations go into my crafts and recipes. If I find something that I like, obviously I’m not going to make or create it exactly, but I will put my twist onto it. Everyone has a starting point, and that’s all inspirations are. 🙂
FCI: Why do you choose to ‘do it yourself’? What do you like about DIY design?
JP: I think it’s a cooler idea to actually create something yourself versus going out and buying it. There’s a lot of items that I see and end up saying, “Oh, I can make that.” But the thing is, do I want to? All depends if my creative juices are flowing!
